American Idol making folks mad

So, to be honest, I haven't watched American Idol in years. Most times, I forget it's even on TV still.

But I was cruising around iTunes tonight and saw the songs from the American Idol top 10. Back in the day, I would buy a track by a contestant I liked.  I listened to a few 1:30 samples then started to read some reviews.

Apparently folks are mad - and justly so I would add - that this season, if you want to buy a song by your favorite, you can't do that. On iTunes right now, if you want the song performed by your favorite from last night, you have to buy all ten songs from last night.

A show that furthers itself by having people vote for their favorite now doesn't allow fans to buy the track by their favorite that week...?

Sounds like taking the concept of the show and flipping it sideways: "we want you to vote and have a favorite, but to own a performance you have to buy everyone's track."

Hmmm.....

New procedure: "fat freezing" with no operating room time

There's a new procedure that boasts it can kill fat cells for good, no surgery needed.

If getting rid of that problem area by changing your diet or hitting the gym five days a week isn't working, you may be able to freeze it off, without setting foot into an operating room.

"It's pretty amazing," explained Dr. Samuel Sohn, a plastic surgeon.

The procedure is called coolsculpting and Dr. Sohn is one of a handful of plastic surgeons in the Las Vegas valley performing it.

Here's how it works: a patient's problem area is marked, a gel is put over it, and an applicator suctions the skin and fat.

Crystals form in the fat cells causing them to burst. About an hour later, patients go home with no recovery time needed.

"Typically with each treatment you would expect that an individual would have between 20% - 25% fat reduction per treatment," said Dr. Sohn.

Dr. Sohn has been offering coolsculpting at his Henderson office for about six months. He says patients see results in about three weeks. It's because of that time frame that he says the demand is increasing nationwide.

"It just smooths everything out and really finishes off all the hard work you're doing," said Ellen.

Coolsculpting costs anywhere from $500 to $2,000. The procedure was cleared by the Food and Drug Administration last year.

As far as side effects, Dr. Sohn says some patients can experience redness and mild numbing in the treated areas. As with any procedure, everyone reacts differently so you just need to consult with your doctor.

Music: New love and heartbreak

Facebook knows when you’ve met someone and it knows when you break up. We tell Facebook these things.

For some, a relationship doesn’t officially start until it’s reflected in the "Relationship" field on Facebook, and it’s not really over until Facebook says it is.

The data team at Facebook can see this data for hundreds of millions of people, and as of late last year, it started letting people share their listening activity through the social network.

Mashing these concepts together (relationships and music), the Facebook data team was able to track which songs people in new relationships are most likely to play, as well as the songs they cue up following a breakup.

The song most associated with new relationships was “Don’t Wanna Go Home” by Jason Derulo. On the other hand, the #1 song breakers-up tended to listen to “The Cave,” by Daniel Ek fave Mumford & Sons.

Here are the complete lists of the most popular music amongst the freshly love-struck or lovelorn created by Facebook’s data team - let me know what you think:

One father's approach to teaching his daughter work ethics

3 million views in two days.

I do think there is an entitlement mentality out there in some parts of the world.

What are your thoughts on this?

Are chores a good "teaching moment" for kids?

Should parents take strong action when they feel their child's view of entitlement may differ from their own?

I'd love to get Randy Report readers thoughts on this.

Color me 'blown off'....

A few months ago I reached out to a prominent cabaret performer I admire to promote her new CD on my blog because I believed in it. I really loved the CD.  We're talking free promotion to 100K readers.

The artist responded, and I emailed a few interview questions to accompany the proposed blog post promoting the CD.

Result? Blew me off and never sent back responses.

Kind of hurt my feelings - 'who cares about your little blog' - but I guess I can get over it....

You fabulous "Randy Report" 100K readers can do without news about the artist I guess.

Oh well....
